HOW LONG ITEMS MAY STAY

Quebec law sets no maximum time for an item on a report. Any time you see is a bureau's own practice, not the law.

YOUR RIGHT TO QUESTION A LINE

In Quebec, you have a right to have wrong or incomplete information fixed. The company must answer you in writing within 30 days. If it does not answer, the law treats that as a refusal, and you can go to the Commission d'accès à l'information. This is in the private-sector privacy law, at arts. 28 and 32.

28. In addition to the rights provided under the first paragraph of article 40 of the Civil Code, any person may, if personal information concerning him is inaccurate, incomplete or equivocal, or if collecting, communicating or keeping it are not authorized by law, require that the information be rectified. … 32. The person in charge of the protection of personal information must reply in writing to the request for access or rectification, promptly and not later than 30 days after the date the request is received. Failure to respond within 30 days of the receipt of a request is deemed to be a refusal to grant the request.

Nothing here is legal advice. Where a card shows a quote, it is the government's own text, with the date we read it. Where it says “Quoted section coming”, we are still checking the exact section. The card gives the rule in plain words and links the official page. Accurate information stays on your report; we help you question what is wrong or out of date.

STRAIGHT TALK

What we never do.

The rules are the same for everyone. Knowing them is the whole point.

  • We never remove accurate information. Nobody can.
  • We never promise a score change, an approval or a removal.
  • Nothing leaves without your say. You read, you approve.
  • We never show you a number and call it your credit score.

Questions people in Québec ask.

Do you remove things from my report?

No. Nobody can remove accurate information. We help you find what is wrong or out of date and draft the letter you send yourself.

Which law applies in Québec?

Credit Assessment Agents Act (CQLR c. A-8.2). We show the section that applies to each item and link to the official page so you can read it.

Do I get a credit score?

No. We do not make up a score, and we never call a number of ours your credit score.

Is this in English?

Yes. Every page and letter is in French and English. In Québec, French comes first.
